Email Forwarding
Information about how we handle email forwarding
Introduction
Email forwarding is a process where emails sent to one address are automatically redirected to another address. While it can be convenient for users managing multiple email accounts, it introduces significant security and reliability issues. One of the main problems is the potential for breaking email authentication mechanisms like SPF (Sender Policy Framework) and DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail), leading to emails being marked as spam or rejected. Forwarding also complicates troubleshooting and tracking email issues, as the original sender’s information can be lost or obscured. Additionally, forwarded emails can be susceptible to abuse and spam, making it difficult to maintain a clean inbox.
How we handle Email Forwarding
We do fully support Email Forwarding within our platform, however it is a practice that should be avoided where possible. To make email forwarding the least impactful to our network, we do require that Sender Rewriting Scheme (SRS) is enabled on your end.
SRS is fully supported on all common hosting control panels and is usually a simple checkbox to enable.
Even with SRS enabled, Email Forwarding can still be problematic, and as such we route all forwarded emails through a different segment of IP addresses to help keep our main IP feed clean for emails that are not forwarded.
